How I Became A Badfinger Fan
I guess I was about 11 or 12 when I bought the Come And Get It 45 back in 1970. Around that time I was buying alot of the apple singles. Then I can remember hearing No Matter What on the radio but never did buy it. It wasn't until around 1972 when I heard Day After Day and Baby Blue and then I went out and bought the album Straight Up and played it until it turned white. Fell out of contact until 1979 when I heard Love Is Gonna Come At Last on the radio and got back into the band. It was around 1980 when I found out thru the library that Pete had died and I was pretty shocked about that because it was Pete's vocals that really drew me to the band. I saw Tommy Evan's Badfinger in 1982 and was so greatful for getting a chance to finally see them live. Though Pete wasn't there it was still an awesome show to say the least. Fell out of contact again, joined the army, got out and saw Joey Molland's Badfinger in 1989 but wondered where Tommy was. Well around that time I read the article in Rolling Stone-Where Are They Now and found out and thought to myself no not again. Started buying up the reissues and then discovered 7 Park Avenue and the Dan Matavina book in the fall of 1998 thru the internet. And here I am today. I still get a woody everytime I here No Matter What or Baby Blue or anything that has to do with Pete Ham or Badfinger..... There is no real perfection.
