How I Became A Badfinger Fan

How I Became A Badfinger Fan

I had heard MAGIC CHRISTIAN a handful of other Badfinger songs through my brothers(both musicians). At the time that "NO DICE" was released I was 12 and hadn't heard much from the album. The first time I heard "No Matter what" I assumed it was a Beatles record that I had somehow missed hearing. It turned out to be good timing though as I had my first kiss from a girl in the neighborhood just after hearing the song, so both the song and that memory has stuck with me throughout the years. Everytime I heard the song afterwards I thought of Valeria and that first kiss. I guess you could say that Badfinger helped realize my first crush. Due to that first kiss(and hearing "No matter what" )I became a huge Badfinger fan. Although I've lost touch with the little girl who gave me my first kiss(she moved about a year later). Still have the memories.... By the way, I'm also a huge Beatles fan and I think the Beatles/Badfinger connection is a little overrated. It seems that most folks want to praise Badfinger by their association with the Beatles and it demeans their achievements. Although there are certainly superficial resemblences and, yes, the Beatles were an influence on the band, it's clear that, more than anything else, they had similiar inspirations and that contributed to the creation of a sound that, in some respects, echoed the Beatles.
